In preparation for Hurricane Sandy, the Parks Department will close all parks, playgrounds and beaches at 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 28, 2012. All events are cancelled after 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 28, 2012. Surfing is prohibited at all beaches throughout the course of the storm. Everyone is urged to stay out of parks and to proceed with caution on tree-lined streets in the event of downed limbs or falling trees. Report downed trees, etc. to 311 and in an emergency call 911. The MTA will begin shutting down its system tonight at 7pm. All subway, bus and commuter rail service will be suspended until the end of the storm, which is likely to be sometime on Wednesday.
