The Annual LIC Bike Parade united and connected our waterfront from Socrates Sculpture Park to Queensbridge Park on Saturday, June 6, 2015.
The day started with a Bike Bonanza in Socrates Park where the NYC Department of Transportation gave away free bike helmets, Recycle-A-Bicycle tuned up and swapped out bikes, the Queens Action Council with City Harvest showcased cooking demonstrations and highlighted community groups working together to build community access to fresh and affordable food.
Green Shores NYC also worked with Bike New York to offer a Learn to Ride for kids at Rainey Park.
At the Bike Parade Terminus, we were joined by the Friends of Queensbridge Park Committee in distributing refreshments to volunteers. Parade participants were also treated to a healthy soda making demo with City Harvest, bike spoke flower making with Recycle-A-Bicycle and crafting with Socrates Sculpture Park.
Last BUT definitely NOT least, the parade was led down Vernon Blvd by the Berean Community Drumline and the crowd was treated to two additional performances by the troupe.
If you missed this year's parade, start planning ahead to join us next year!
BIG thanks to Socrates Sculpture Park, Recycle-A-Bicycle, City Harvest, Queens Action Council, NYC Compost Project at Build it Green!NYC, Bike New York, NYCDOT, Partnerships for Parks, NYPD and Friends of Queensbridge Park Committee.
